Continuing Series in the Life of a Pastoral Care Pastor

Day in the life of a Pastoral Care Pastor
June 14, 2010, – Monday: It has been almost a week since my last entry and it felt strange not writing something. Worked the first three days and took two days of vacation. I played golf two days last week which hopefully will help improve my scores. Had several interviews to conduct for a position of Admin as my current admin is moving to another department. Starting today she will have to start training for new position. We finished the interviews on Monday afternoon late and laid them before the Lord for direction and it was not until late Thursday before we felt we had an answer. So, she starts her adventure today. I also sat on a panel for our monthly men’s breakfast meeting and allowed the men to ask any question they wanted. It was fun as the process was allotted 30 minutes but it took almost 45 and all the men stayed and seemed engaged in the process. Good solid questions and my overall take on the questions was; How do we live the Christian life, How do we hear from God, and we are alone in our walk. All were good questions and I had several questions after the meeting had finished. On Sunday we had our small group meeting at our house and before they arrived my daughter and her husband and our youngest granddaughter came for a visit. So, the day was wonderful. Today I arrived at the office a little early for a meeting with someone who needed some benevolence help. Had a chance to share some with her and help get her started on the right path. I had a scheduled 10 AM with a young man who was in total confusion spiritually. Someone from our church told him to come see me and I would be able to point him in the right direction…so, guess where I pointed him….correcto!…to the cross and he really embraced his new found relationship with Jesus. I gave him a new bible and gave him some places to read and encouraged him to find a good church. I had a scheduled appointment at 3:30 with a lady who has been having some difficulties with her life. She said that she has been having panic attacks with fear coming at her during odd times. She is a Christian as I led her to the cross 5 months ago. Had some prayer with her and discussed some scriptures and suggested she have some sessions with my prayer director Betty, so I will set that up with her soon. I then came home, cooked some hotdogs on the grill and set on the deck watching it rain and eating with my wife.

Books Currently Reading: I am currently reading, 2012 The Bible and the End of the World by Mark Hitchcock; Sheep in Wolves Clothing by Valerie J. McIntyre; and just finished Lucifer Exposed by Derek Prince.

Current Bible Readings / Studies: I am currently reading and doing some studying in 1st and 2nd Timothy. Paul is encouraging his young protégé to stay focused on what God has called you and live out the calling placed upon you with the laying on of hands.

Devotions: Still currently reading through the bible with a program that chronologically lays out the scriptures in the sequence they occurred or more likely to have occurred. It has many footnotes and is a very intense program designed by a member of my church and my golfing buddy.
