Tidbits from the life of a Pastoral Care Pastor

Monday June 28
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. (1 John 4:16 ESV)
I recently purchased a DVD titled Furious Love. I didn’t quite know what I was buying as I bought it on a recommendation of a relative on Facebook, which by the way, I have not ever met, except via Facebook so this was a leap of faith on my part. I have had the movie for 7 days and watched it twice and each time I realize that you cannot minister to people that you don’t love. I have come to know much deeper that Jesus’ love is what overwhelmed the people of His day. Each of you can recall several incidents where one of the disciples would make a jester to take something by force…even Peter cutting off the ear of a soldier coming to arrest Jesus on the night of His betrayal. Jesus destroyed every ones arguments with Love. He told us to love one another, as Christians, so that the “world” would recognize us as followers of Him. Everything must be rooted in love, even those we can’t stand to be around. How should we respond, you might be thinking as you read this? We must remain in the mode of drawing closer and closer to Christ, becoming more and more like Him. Our obedience to our Lord is foremost. We are to reflect to all the love of God that has become manifest in us.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. (1 John 4:7-12 ESV)
The film touched me deeply and I have had to learn, especially as I minister to God’s people (meaning all of God’s created) that I must minister with an attitude of love or the Holy Spirit will not even show up and I really need Him to show up because I may not have the correct advice needed for this situation. As you can gather the film has worked on my attitude and caused me to be more yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit. So, it’s been a good week and I regret not having written before now and will endeavor to be more diligent. I may write more about love in my next entry and I have so much to say but this is quite long as it is…see you soon.
